Student Employment Opportunities

ATS employs approximately 100 part-time student employees and frequently hires new student employees. Positions include student computer consultants at the ATS Help Desk, classroom technology support, office staff, sales positions with the MSU Computer Store, programming, and more. An applicant for student employment must be a currently-registered MSU student.

ATS Help Desk Call Center

Do you have excellent communication skills and technical knowledge? The ATS Help Desk Call Center is currently hiring students who can provide exceptional customer service in a technical environment. Knowledge of MSU network and e-mail systems is desirable. To apply for a position, send a cover letter and resume to ithelp@msu.edu.

MSU Computer Help and Repair (Walk-In Help)

Are you a people person that likes to solve computer related problems? The MSU Computer Help and Repair is looking for candidates who can provide professional and courteous support to MSU students, faculty, staff, and retirees that are requesting computing assistance.

Excellent communication skills are required. Customer service experience, preferably in a technical environment is desired; as are familiarity with basic networking concepts, experience with troubleshooting virus/spyware problems, e-mail setup, hardware and software troubleshooting, and knowledge of desktop computing operating environments. Experience in computer repair is also desirable.

Duties include:

  • Provide first tier walk-in face-to-face support to students, faculty, staff, retirees, and affiliates of the MSU community in the following areas:
  1. Connecting to the campus network
  2. General software application support
  3. OS troubleshooting and reinstallation
  4. Virus/spyware diagnosis
  5. Password reset assistance
  • Clerical support
  • Other duties as assigned

MSU Computer Store Sales Associate

Do you like new technology? The MSU Computer Store is staffed by helpful and knowledgeable students who can assist MSU faculty, staff, and students with purchase decisions on products that are available through the MSU Computer Store. This includes assisting customers on the phone, online, and one-on-one in the store.

The ideal candidate will have a sales/marketing background and customer service experience. A general computer knowledge, experience, and interest required along with knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. InDesign and Photoshop experience are helpful for producing point of sale signage and other promotional material. Good communication skills and self-motivation are extremely important.

Duties include:

  • Handling walk-in and telephone calls involving sales of computer systems
  • Producing sales flyers, competitive analysis, and signage for point-of- sale displays
  • Assisting with development and preparation of Computer Store back-to-school flyers
  • Customer satisfaction follow-up

ATS Media Services Classroom Assistant

Are you interesting in providing technology support in a classroom setting? ATS Media Services Classroom assistants provide support for all technology in university classrooms, computer labs, and NetPrint printers. To apply for a position, send your resume to atsclass@msu.edu.

Media Services is looking for reliable students with a variety of skills. Advancement opportunities are available for students who are aggressive workers and self starters. Also needed are students who can begin work at 7 a.m. Must be able to communicate effectively. Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds to a level of 52 inches. Must have basic computer skills. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Duties include:

  • Performing quality control checks in all technology classrooms; troubleshooting and resolving reported problems and reporting equipment failures
  • Assisting faculty on how to use the equipment in the classrooms
  • Delivering equipment to classrooms as needed
  • Monitoring, filling paper, replacing toner, and clearing jams on several models of Hewlett Packard NetPrint printers
  • Doing maintenance on overheads for classrooms (rolling and replacing acetate, cleaning, and testing lamps on equipment)
  • Cleaning equipment in the classrooms
