About this site

Created by

This Academic Technology Services website was created by the ATS Web Design Team and the ATS Communications and Training Team in May of 2008, and is hosted by the W3VH hosting service provided by ATS.

Audience and purpose

This site was designed with two audience groups in mind.

  1. People who work for MSU, but do not work for ATS.
  2. Colleagues from other institutions.

The purpose of the site is to inform visitors about ATS as an organization.

We purposely excluded communicating about the services that ATS provides as a matter of scope, and because we expect that the Computing at MSU website will grow to do a better job of that.

Web standards

This site is built with Web standards in mind. Decisions regarding markup and style were made, and whenever possible we chose what we felt to be the most semantically appropriate elements.

Accessibility

In line with the MSU Web Accessibility Policy, we’ve endeavored to make this site easy-to-use for people with various disabilities and using various types of assistive technology.

If you have a recommendation on how to make this site more accessible, please send us that recommendation through our contact form.

Technology

The static content in this site is built to be editable using Adobe Dreamweaver or Contribute, and is set up in Dreamweaver Templates.

The dynamic content (the organization of ATS and the staff directory) is generated using PHP, MySQL, and MSU’s LDAP service, with a custom Web interface for administrators to maintain that information.

The search feature for the site uses Yahoo!’s Web Search API, which we found to offer better control of the markup of the search results page than that provided by Google’s Web Search API.
